COVID Update – 8/19/2021
August 19, 2021The FDA Approves Pfizer Vaccine
August 24, 2021The Delta variant is running out of control, and right now the only thing we can really do to protect ourselves is get the vaccine, but this will only decrease the severity of the case and lower the chance of hospitalization or death. Masks are currently being enforced in states that are seeing a huge uptick in cases such as Washington and Oregon, and expect many states to follow suite. It will be interesting if we start taking steps backwards towards another lock down. Colleges are getting the school year underway, and many schools are requiring masks indoors on campus, and for students to be fully vaccinated with few exceptions. It will be interesting to see if there is an increase in cases, especially young adults, within the next month or two. The good thing about the vaccine: it still works far better than no vaccine.
To prove this, Medical News Today complied a report that shows states with lower vaccination rates have higher hospitalization an deaths. Medical News Today states, "A study has found a clear correlation between stronger state interventions to control the spread of COVID-19 and fewer deaths from the disease." This is certainly important data to show that even with the variants that are running rapid, we can still protect ourselves. The long lasting effects of COVID are something to consider, some people still can't taste and smell. With the vaccine, you're highly less susceptible to have long lasting effects and will likely only carry a minor case of COVID.
COVID has taken the lives of over 620,000 Americans. It has been nothing short of devastating and it's time to get this under control.
